Day Trip Menu To Enhance Your Getaway Break

Picture
Kananook Heritage House Executive Suite and ‘Private Residence’ Apartment are located in a beautiful natural river garden area, just beyond the riverside waterfront with absolute natural views of historical Picnic Point which was a popular historic area to Picnic at the Point on the riverside under the willows. This setting in a green Oasis provides tranquil views of the changing colours and seasons of the orchard on the river flat, and overlooks the lagoon with waterbirds. The gentle rolling hills and portrait views of dramatic skies frame the background as the clouds roll by with differing hues of light with beautiful soft yellow sunsets fill the air at the end of the day - while you get to relax and enjoy the refreshing pristine pure country air.

The natural river walk - begins just 5 minutes away after ambling down the rise from the front gate - through Yeates gravel Drive on the left just past the 'farm door' shed. Feel the natural gravel scrunching under your feet as you enjoy exploring the laneway walk and pass the dramatic tall green hedge of trees to wander through the Picnic Point nature reserve and hear the water birds call, and discover the abundant wild life. If you fancy a little more exercise, you can enjoy joining the Mitchell River walk beside the river that allows you to stroll through the natural landscape as it meanders along side the big rolling river before you stop and explore the CBD.

The Victorian High Plains and Gippsland Lakes are adjacent Natural wonders to enjoy, inviting hours of exploration whilst taking the time out to experience tasting local produce at cafes, wineries and provedores in the region with water or mountain landscapes views to compliment the experience, naturally of course. Visiting lakeside towns is only a 20 minute day trip adventure and road tour away before returning back to the tranquil Oasis to relax, refresh, rejuvenate and revitalise after a busy time outside with tourist crowds.

Lakes Entrance is only 30 minutes away by car where you will find all the fishing trawlers and it is here that you can buy fish direct off the boat, walk the 90-mile beachand get a great view of the Gippsland Lake system.

Alternatively, go inland to Bruthen where you will find a pretty country village and great brewer alongside the Rail Trail.

Further again explore the Buchan Caves, a honeycomb of caves full of spectacular limestone formations.

There is also an excellent Rail Trail for cyclists between Bairnsdale and Newmeralla.

Another choice is to hire a boat and sail the lakes or simply do nothing and enjoy the serenity.

Alternately you can choose something more adventurous and take a day trip to go skiing at Mt Hotham, hike at Mt Feathertop, take a scenic horse ride along the foothills of the start of the local high plains or experience some white water rafting on the Mitchell River.

Traveller Reviews

Kananook 1880s ‘Private Residence’ FSC Apartment Villa is a charming, historic gem in a secret hideaway location and equipped with everything you need for a very comfortable stay. We loved the personal touch of fresh flowers and Easter eggs on our arrival (we stayed for the Easter long weekend). The wooden deck at the back of the cottage is perfect for sundowners and overlooks nearby farmlands. Highly recommend this tastefully furnished, beautiful cottage for your next getaway!

Had a lovely Stay in the 1880s ‘Private Residence’ FSC Apartment Villa for four nights between Christmas and New Year. Enjoyed a morning walk to the Picnic Point Reserve and the Mitchell River and also the local cafes in Bairnsdale and Paynesville. Air conditioning kept us cool on the 40 degree day!

I have just spent 6 nights staying at this gorgeous 1880s Private Residence ‘ FSC Apartment Villa (home-away-from-home) place. The Heritage home is adorned with very high ceilings .. it felt spacious the moment I walked in and this was extended to the installation of a large window wall that overlooked the back verandah and brought the outside in. On arrival I walked in to a beautiful bunch of flowers on the table so instantly I just felt the warmth of a home. Suzanne, (the host) was most hospitable in every way, she looked after any of my needs and even went as far to have had a bottle of wine dropped into my fridge on day 2 should I have had a tough day at work. The surrounding areas are visually beautiful, great walking track along the Mitchell River is only minutes away, it's 7 minutes to drive to town yet it's super quiet with lots of birds sounds and serenity to enjoy. I slept soundly every night … maybe this is due to a very comfortable memory bed - To be truthful I was a little sad to leave this place - for anyone considering this as accommodation it comes so highly recommended by me, I couldn't fault it … I just hope I can find another reason to go back and stay one day. If you make a booking, you won't be disappointed. Karen (Melbourne)
